We have been recently been receiving e-mails from the occasional angry person, protesting against my work.

Though the vast majority of my viewers seem to "get it", all of these angry/aggressive comments/e-mails seem to be glistening with such strong ignorance and illiteracy that I thought it best to spell out some key points.

For those of you who seem to be under the impression that I am partaking in some sort of immoral indulgence with my work:

1

I DO NOT KILL ANY OF THESE ANIMALS

2

MOST OF THE ANIMALS I USE ARE ROADKILL LIKE THE ONE SHOWN ABOVE.

THE REST ARE CAUGHT BY CATS, DIE NATURALLY IN CITY FARMS, ARE KILLED BY PEST CONTROLLERS, OR ARE BOUGHT FROZEN AS SNAKE FOOD, WITH THE REMNANTS STILL BEING FED TO ANOTHER ANIMAL.

3

THE PRESERVATION OF AN ANIMAL THROUGH TAXIDERMY IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME AS MAKING A COW HIDE INTO A LEATHER: VERY LITTLE OF THE ACTUAL ANIMAL REMAINS, AND THE VAST MAJORITY OF IT IS SCULPTED OUT OF OTHER MATERIALS.

4

ANIMALS DIE. YOU'LL DIE, WE WILL ALL DIE EVENTUALLY.

THERE ISN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

I understand that not everyone in the world would like to wear a double rat headdress.
Not everyone can see beauty in all animals.

However: hand making beautiful and often useful objects out of something that is locally sourced, and that would otherwise be wasted is far more morally buoyant than driving to a High Street store to buy a machine made, carcinogenic plastic forged coin purse constructed in East Asia, and sold in Los Angeles.

Do please take a moment to think about it.
