Black Black Black

I have been experimenting with different feather dying techniques. I am yet to be 100% happy with any of them.

I'm after a deep oil slick black, and all they dyes I have been using give me a dull, muted black with altered feather texture/volume.

Anyone know a nice (preferably eco?) jet black feather dye? Get in touch--- info@rpencore.com

Pigeon

I found this pigeon across the street from the main entrance to the National Portrait Gallery.

It was in beautiful shape... it must have flown into the window of the Nat West building, and broken it's neck. I'm sorry I didn't get any better images. That area gets lots of foot traffic and tourism, so I had to act fast...

Rat Coin Purse: The Second Coming

This is another style of coin purse I've made out of rat fur. The skin is from one extremely large feeder rat which had a strange problem when it went through the tanning process. The skin separated from the hands, feet and face of the animal, forcing me to come up with a new design.

I'm quite pleased with how it came out, and it's given me some thoughts for the next collection.

Who's Jack Magazine

The people at Who's Jack Magazine got in touch a while ago about borrowing some pieces for their 30th edition.

It's interesting the way they've styled the London Caught Mouse Pendant as they would any other manly necklace... It's RP/Encore for the everyday!

Spoilers!

Here are some stills from the Juvelen music video I worked on with PolzerHofstedt:

Autumn Leaves Collaboration

Image: © Toby Ross-Southall - Model: Nutty Williams - Makeup: Nohelia Reyes

I recently collaborated with amazing Art Director -- and a close friend of mine: Miss Scarlet Winter on a collection of performances for The Opulent Club.

Here's the official blurb:

"

Autumn Leaves is a conceptual approach to the presentation of fashion and accessories. Combining art, performance and fashion, ‘Autumn Leaves’ negates the confines of the catwalk and adds a contemporary element. A collaboration between art director, Scarlet Winter and designer Reid Peppard (RP/Encore) Autumn Leaves encapsulates the essence of the traditional British autumn.

"

Staged at 33 Portland Place, ‘Autumn Leaves' was performed by the gorgeous Beaux Belles and three stunning models.

Shrunken Heads

Here is a picture of a shrunken head my dear friend Mattie brought me from Ecuador:

Ok, so it's not a real one (it's made out of goat skin) but it brings me neatly into the following:

My Aunt Julie sent me this amazing link from National Geographic:

http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/expedition-week/4380/Overview#tab-headshrinking-process

with this incredible and extremely rare archival footage:

I think this sort of preservation is so fascinating! Expect more on this in the future...

Lady Gaga: Bad Romance

There's some really fab fashion in Lady Gaga's latest music video "Bad Romance". Lots of beautiful McQueen stuff, and even some... RP/Encore!

I was approached by Gaga's people to make some work especially for the video a while back, but they requested I keep it quiet until the video was released to the public which was last night...

check it out:

Paying special attention to 4:25 and the very end... If you look closely you can see my creations on Lady Gaga's head!

Thanks to Nicola Formichetti and Ana Trevelyan for getting in touch.

I will post some high res pics if and when i get some.

Inside the brain of a taxidermist...

I was recently approached by creative duo Polzer Hoffstedt to collaborate on a music video for Swedish pop star Juvelen:

I don't want to give anything away, but the character we developed for the video is rather like a fictional interpretation of a young crazy... you guessed it... taxidermist who has some rather bazaar habits...

It should be ready fairly soon, and I'll post the link when it's online.

It's life...

A lot of you will know Jack from emailing us at RP/Encore, or from the door at the Launch. Most weekends he does a bit of work in Colchester in the countryside, and generally comes back with some casualties of the road. Here is an image of one such casualty.

Big Game Hunting/ Juxtapoz Magazine

Panasonic doing her bit for RP/Encore

A while ago I met up with the charming Simon Creasey to talk about my work, how I got started, and where I source my creatures. You can read it here at Juxtapoz. I'm really pleased with what he wrote, but I can't believe I forgot to mention Panasonic!!! With a little luck and some denta-bites, she might forgive me...

Images From The Launch

All images: Anastasia Afonina

For those of you who weren't able to make it to the launch on the 17th, here are some images from the event!

I think the event went really well, and I have a whole slew of people to thank for that. Over the course of the night, friends kept on asking if my calm and collected exterior was covering up a more crazed and anxious interior, but the truth of the matter was, that the crew of people who volunteered to help in the build up to the launch, and during the launch were so amazing, I really wasn't stressed at all!

So here it is, a quick little thank you to some incredibly kind and generous people who really made the RP/Encore Vermin Collection Launch such a success:

Christopher and Thomas: From lifting 2ton plinths down three floors, to finding us an incredible showroom, and dragging 50 odd goody-bags down to fashion street--- re-connecting with these two has been one of the biggest gifts of the past month.

Alex Shaw: Alex has literally sustained physical injuries for the RP/Encore cause... for those of you who received the beautiful bound and sealed paper invitations to the event, Alex was my partner in both sealing and hand delivering these beauties all around London in the pouring rain!

Anastasia Afonina: Anastasia was a saving grace---she came through and helped with all of the last minute design execution and press pack organization. She also took all of the images shown above!

Amber Oxley: There is no way the exhibit would have come out half spectacular as it did without her help. She has a fantastic way with material (no surprise as she is such a fabulous fashion designer) and her help leading up to the show was absloutely invaluable.

Mr. Chips: Deserves his very own post (to follow). WWMCD?

Big Thanks

Now that the launch/showroom for the Vermin Collection has finally finished off, I've had a bit of time to troll the Internet and do some ego googling...

I've been really lucky thus far with the live CNN interview, and an interview with the lovely Simon Creasey for Juxtapoz Magazine (Coming out next month I believe!!! My first interview in print! AK!).

But I have to say, some of the press that has possibly excited me most has been this article I found on Greenwala.com.

The moral and ethical "dilemmas" in using/producing taxidermy have been a constant point of interest with many, and a reason for blind uneducated rage amongst many others. It was so encouraging to read such an articulate and supportive article--- especially from an eco/ethical website such as Greenwala. Much thanks to Elizah Leigh --- that really made my day!

CNN!

Here's a live interview I did with CNN last Friday---

Of course I wasn't able to say everything I meant to/wanted to say initially, but I think it went pretty well anyways.

Isn't it creepy seeing/hearing yourself speak?!?! (Or is that just me?)

pressie

Here's an image of a little present I gave to a good friend of mine.

A beautifully preserved rat's tongue! Pickled and preserved forever in this beautiful little glass jar, with the RP/ENCORE official seal on it's lid, I was sad to see it leave my work bench.

Rat tongues are beautiful (if slightly alarming and phallic looking) little things...

Making Magic

Viktor was kind enough to send me some images from before the shoot, and I thought I would share them with you...

Model: Alexandra Polk

Currently working like a crazy person, trying to get everything ready for the launch, so not much posting going on... but I couldn't contain my excitement when I was given the opportunity to collaborate on some images with the tallented and esteemed Viktor Vauthier!

This guy has been getting some well deserved press for a while now, so I was super lucky to be able to grab a few hours of his time on Saturday.

He only shoots in film, and doesn't photoshop, so his work has a beautiful grain and texture to it that simply doesn't happen with digital media. Working out of East End London just like moi, I hope to have many more collaborative projects with him in the future!

Check out his blog at:

The stun-er model used is Alexandra Polk--- doesn't she look amazing!?!
