SHOES

A design for a "killer" shoe that didn't end up going through to production, but I thought I would share anyways...

Photobucket

Concept:

Two Headed Viper Shoe with a Dagger Heel

This shoe takes it's inspiration from mythology and the history of the stiletto heel.

I wanted to design a shoe that would encapsulate the ultimate power femme pump. The sharp metal "dagger" heel gives the shoes a dangerous edge, while the two headed serpent that stretches it's self around the dagger and wearer acts as a sensual, yet formidable guardian. In Medieval times a stiletto dagger was the weapon of choice for knights and paupers alike. This dagger gave the stiletto heel it's name, so I thought it more than appropriate to accentuate this in my design. In Egyptian mythology the guardian of the underworld was a god named Nehebkau, who had two serpent heads. They believed that Nehebkau had the power to protect against snake bites, and invoke magical spells both in life, and the after life. I like the idea of these two headed snakes acting as mystical guardians for who so ever dares to wear these killer heels.

Any cobblers out there want to do a collaboration? I basically want to wear these shoes...and they don't exist yet!

And no shoe post would be complete with out the wise words of Kelly:

THE CONVENIENCE STORE: TOMORROW!

I'll be exhibiting some new items of work (!!!) at The Convenience Store tomorrow evening... for their show:
The Perverse Art of Craft: Objects of Desire

Here's what they have to say about it:

"The Perverse Art of Craft celebrates a growing trend toward the bespoke, handmade, artistic, authentic and exclusive but in this instance tainted with a daring, illicit edge. Ibi has carefully curated a store drawing on the art and design talents of his extended community. The work on show will span a multitude of disciplines"

If you're not already familiar with The Convenience Store, you should really check them out...they are one of the best high end boutiques in London.

If you're free tomorrow night, then why not RSVP (mandatory: shopkeeper at theconveniencestorefashion dot co dot uk) for tomorrow's exhibit and after party? Here are the posters for both:

For the Corpse

Big big thank you to those of you who made it over Friday and Saturday for Frostbite: For The Corpse the unconventional culinary event I put on with my mates Jack, Al and Sarah.

Both nights were extremely fun, and we are already working hard on plans for our next event.

One of our lovely guests (Jo from AfternoonTeas) posted a lovely review of her time with us on Friday, and I thought I would re-post some of her images to give you a feel for what went down...

Impossible Parcel

I was so thrilled to see that the beautiful Michelle Haswell from The Kingdom of Style blog enjoyed her festive holiday treat from RP/Encore!

I seriously love this fun video she posted of her and a work colleague trying to break into our special hard shell gift wrapping!

Big thanks to Queen Michelle and Phil Larkin for the footage!

Please note, there is free gift wrapping up until the 22nd of December, but the hard shell gift wrapping still costs £15 a pop...but this has made our little web shop set up crazy, so please just e-mail if you want the hard shell gift wrapping and we'll charge you separately for it. Happy Holidays!

OZZY!!!!

Why... what's that?...

www.SlikoMat.com

www.SlikoMat.com

Oh, you know it's just one of my all time favorite musicians wearing my double rat headdress.

Yep, pretty chuffed it made it on to one of Kerrang! Magazine's May covers. In case you missed it you can order your copy HERE. This issue is pretty fuckin sweet and includes a six page spread on the metal legend, where he talks about growing up in Bermingham, and going solo. As they say in the mag, "The dude's lived enough for ten people" so it's pretty cool seeing what he has to say for himself.

Here's a little taste test of what's inside:

And with that I leave you with the following:

DAS MAGAZIN

www.SlikoMat.com
Photographer: Pier Luigi Maccor

This image needs an explanation:

Remember back in January when Selfridges awarded me the status of Bright Young Thing and gave me a window on Oxford Street to decorate for the month of January?

Well, if you were lucky enough to pass by Selfridges any time from the beginning of January until early March you would have also seen two windows filled with life size cardboard cut-outs of all 20 designers/jewellers/artists awarded the status of Bright Young Thing.

When it came time to clear the cut-outs from the windows, Selfridges got in touch, and a few of my friends insisted I pick mine up so they could decorate their houses with life-size 2D versions of yours truly. Well, when I was walking from the tube station to their house with my double me(s) the photo crew from DAS Magazin approached me to take a set of inpromptu photos for their weekly mag! How random is that?

Polyvore

Excited to see some RP/Encore jewellery has made it's way on to Polyvore via my UK stockist Kabiri.

I have never used Polyvore myself, but it's cool to see the different ways that people think to wear my jewellery.

This one bellow is cool because they even included a bag by my friends Ilya and Resha (of Fleet Ilya)... they also hand make all of their work here in East London. Check out their website HERE.

Where's Wally?: can you find the gold plaited toe bone ring in the above image?

Hmmm... this is giving me ideas for a possible competition...

RP/E Selfridges Window / Bright Young Things

www.SlikoMat.com

This year has kicked off to a really great start. This month I was selected by one of the UK's most prestigious department stores: Selfridges as one of 20 "Bright Young Things" they thought were "the most creative and exciting new names from the worlds of fashion and art".

www.SlikoMat.com

For those of you not familiar with Selfridges: this is a really big deal, and a stupendous honour!

We installed the RP/Encore window last week, and if you find yourself in London, why not stop by and take a peek? Mine is on Oxford Street, four windows down from Duke Street!

Here are some behind the scenes photos from that eversohandsomeandtallented Mr. Houser:

More photos to be shown soon!

Big big thanks to Jack and Josh from Devise London who loaned me the video wall, re-edited the video content specifically for the display, installed everything and made the RP/E logo! You guys are the best! Also big thanks to Flick for staying with us for what ended up being a 13hour over night install shift, and Tom for helping out in spite of having come straight from working a full 8.5 hour workday!

BLOW PR PRESS DAY

As of yesterday my work has been on display at BLOW PR for their press days.

www.SlikoMat.com
image: Jennifer Inglis

Though I'm not on BLOW's books as one of their "BLOW PRESENTS" designers (this might change, but they would be taking on my jewellery only), this is a great opportunity to get some constructive criticism off press and buyers, and to see if BLOW is the right PR company for my rather unique precious metal jewellery.

I've never participated in one of these things before, so it will be interesting seeing what comes out of it.

Something that has already reached me via twitter is an excellent post from the Style Crusader blogger/tweeter which you can read HERE. I think Style Crusader does an excellent job of expressing her impression of my work, and how her opinions developed from her initial "put off" moving gradually into intrigue. She also has some excellent images from the showroom. Worth a click for sure.

Royal Academy + The Independent Magazine

On September 28th I was asked by Vanessa Carlos and Susie Allan-Huxley to have people wear my work as part of a performance for the Royal Academy's Contemporary Circle Fundraising event.

As most of you know, my taxidermy works are part sculpture, part performance piece. To wear one of my taxidermy creations is to take part in a performance. To be the performer. No small task, but one that my gallant models: Rob Storey, Sean Heart, Ryan Strong and Dominic Parczuk carried out with perfect ease.

It was a spectacular night with three other performance artists taking part, and a spectacular arrangement of creatively displayed canapes and drinks to be had. All of the guests seemed to enjoy interacting with the models/performers and we had many very interesting conversations with many different people, which is the whole point of my work really!

Any case, looks like our work that night left it's impression on Jacosta Jones over at the Independent Magazine because look what we found on page 7 in Saturday's Art Magazine:

www.SlikoMat.com

I've had better reviews, but eh...

To see more photos from the night, check out Dafydd Jones' website HERE.
